The Divergent Analyst

A personal preface followed by a practical, commercially grounded field guide to divergent minds inside analytical work. Not a memoir. Not an awareness campaign. An attempt to describe something worth watching for years: the commercial value, personal cost and management difficulty of minds that operate differently inside analytical work.

Why This Book, Why Now

What actually happens inside the mind of an analyst?

Not the part where the analyst decides between a bar graph and a pie chart. The actual psychology of it — the noticing, the connecting, the extreme preparedness before a board meeting because every number needs a defensible story behind it. The ability to hold several rooms, several systems and several commercial consequences in your head at once, then return with a sentence that changes the direction of a conversation.

That curiosity predates any diagnosis. It came from watching organisations ask for curiosity, pattern recognition, ambiguity tolerance and original thought — then judge the person producing it through templates built for predictability.

This is strategic. Methodical. Meticulous. And worth noting.

Why do companies claim to want different thinking, then panic when different thinking arrives with different behaviour? Why is it practically illegal to object? This book is an attempt to describe something watched for years: the commercial value, personal cost and management difficulty of minds that operate differently inside analytical work.

From The Book

The ADHD analyst is not broken specialist talent. He is often a suppressed polymath.

What's Inside

A field guide, not a diagnosis diary

The book holds strengths, cost, volatility and management difficulty together — it does not resolve into "ADHD is a superpower." A selection of the territory it covers:

01

The Suppressed Polymath

Breadth as strength in unfamiliar terrain — and what happens when novelty, the fuel for discovery, runs out.

02

The Hidden Cost of Curiosity

Invisible cognitive expenditure, and why recovery gets mistaken for the problem instead of evidence of the work.

03

The Algorithmic Imagination

Threat-scanning, mental digital twins and the guardrails a divergent mind builds before anyone asks for them.

04

ADHD as a Conflict Engine

Analytical sensitivity versus internal friction — rabbit holes, rejection sensitivity, safety and contribution.

05

The Horizon Problem

Time blindness as distance, not disinterest — and why a good manager connects today's task to tomorrow's objective.

06

The Hub-and-Spoke Analyst

Why one problem instantly maps to commercial, technical and team consequences — and why that's exhausting.

07

The Manager's First Move

Distinguishing autonomy from abandonment when desire and competence are present but movement is absent.

08

The Tool Is Not the Transformation

Platform fluency versus question fluency — and why digital transformation is the moment to challenge inherited assumptions.

09

The Divergent Analyst and the 21st-Century Business

AI, judgement and cognitive diversity — and the conditions that turn different thinking into exceptional value.
